The photo to the left showing the "before" state of the nature trail helps one understand the extent of the growth that had to be cleared. That didn't pose a problem for our PTA members. It turns out that some of our parents couldn't wait until Saturday to get started. Several of our parents arrived Friday with tractors, trucks, mulch, and landscaping tools of all descriptions.
A large crew returned on Saturday to work on the nature trail, weed the garden boxes around the school, weed the sign out front, re-mulch, pick-up trash, and get the grounds in good shape in anticipation of Fall Festival.
Crystal Lett headed up the effort to dedicate the entrance of the nature trail to the memory of Susan Soltes. Susan was a dedicated parent who cared deeply for Avoca Elementary. Her passing has been a loss felt by the entire community. Therefore, it was fitting that so many students and parents, many of whom have moved on to Vance, came by to take part in this special effort. A memorial stone has been ordered to adorn the nature trail entrance with the following inscription:
Nature is man's teacher. She unfolds her treasures to his search, unseals his eyes, illuminates his mind, purifies his heart, and influences breaths from all the sights and sounds of her existence.
It is exciting to see so many folks who care so deeply about the school and our community. A huge THANK YOU goes to all of those below who contributed freely of their time, effort, money, and support. An alphabetized list of the many volunteers who came over the weekend follows.
